New Project Awards - American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)

Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) & Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR), the Building Technologies Program hopes to make supplemental appropriations for job preservation and creation, infrastructure investment, energy efficiency and science, assistance to the unemployed, and State and local fiscal stabilization. The buildings sector accounts for a major portion of our nation’s energy consumption. As of June 2010, several advanced energy-efficient building technology and training projects have been selected for funding. The selections for building envelope and windows R&D will create new jobs, create environmental awareness, and help drive down the cost of current technology while paving the way for emerging technologies.

    Dual benefit, building integrated, solar roofing already exists.

    Futura Solar holds US patent 6,912,816 for the only multiple benefit solar roofing system (structurally integrated) being offered today.

    The multiple benefits, in addition to the roof itself, are:
    Daylighting, without interior solar loading.
    PV as an option
    SWH as an option
    Solar air heating, which captures the solar loading as process hot air
    Incidental space conditioning & heat recovery (the air heater draws from just below the ceiling).

    This system revives sawtooth roofing, an established and proven roofing method.  A triangle truss (established and proven) is the structural element and replaces 2 of the expanded joists used in flat deck roofing.  The air heater (established and proven) faces south and captures the solar loading.  The daylighter faces north so as not to permit interior heating.

    Our CAD Centric template system reduces training for OVE framing partners while printing framing data into a air sealing gasket to reduce energy consupmtion. Wind lashing inside the insulated wall cavity is reduced allowing the insulation to perform at it's highest R rating. Seals all bottom and top plates with a continous thermal break while laying out the framing accuratly. Vetted by the DuPont Company.

    Interested parties should contact me and add this technology to their building process to streamline framing phase while add air-sealing at the same time!
