Following the Associated Press Stylebook, Communication Standards is updating the way we handle "Web" words on the EERE website. See the updated entry in the Communication Standards Style Guide.
The gist of it is this:
- Web "Web" is part of a compound word, "Web" isn't capitalized. So these are lower case, one word:
- But when "Web" is being used as a proper noun or as part of a phrase (so there are multiple words), it's capitalized:
- Web page
- Web feed
- the Web
The most important thing to remember is that "Web page" is two words, with the "Web" capitalized. But "website" is now one word.
As always, you can update your websites gradually. Use "website" and "Web page" on all your new content. When you update an older page, update the style as you go. EERE is looking into a semi-automated way to make this change, and more information about that will be mailed out later.
