In March, The City of Round Rock, TX’s City Council officially presented their newly installed solar PV system to the Round Rock community. The 100 kW PV system cost $512,000 of which $356,000 was provided by the Department of Energy EECBG program and $175,000 was provided by a grant from Oncor Electric Delivery, LLC, the local utility.  Over the 25-year life of the system, it is expected to save the community of Round Rock over $380,000 and offset around 250 tons of carbon dioxide per year. According to the system’s installers, Solar Community, the projects that they have worked on using American Reinvestment and Recovery Act grant dollars have allowed their small company to provide work to 30 people since the EECBG grants were released. The company also noted that all components of the installation, the SolarWorld AG panels, the junction boxes, and the electrical connections are American made, thereby creating more jobs throughout the US economy.
